Bargaining Committee Nominations Open Thursday, February 8, 2024

Nominations will be declared open for the WOAW-UAW Bargaining Committee election at 8:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Nominations will remain open until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

The WOAW-UAW Bargaining Committee (BC) will negotiate the first union contract with Wellesley College on behalf of all WOAW-UAW employees. You may accept nomination for the BC if you are a WOAW-UAW employee and have demonstrated support for the Union by signing a union authorization card (sign here). While the committee will be trained and assisted by experienced UAW staff, the elected BC will lead negotiations. Responsibilities of the BC include:

  • Working with the Organizing Committee (OC) to survey membership and developing bargaining goals based on survey responses to be ratified in a union-wide vote prior to bargaining

  • Developing and drafting bargaining proposals in coordination with member-led working groups

  • Attending all bargaining sessions

  • Making recommendations to membership on whether to approve a contract or take other actions (e.g., calling a Strike Authorization Vote, if necessary).

Nominations will be declared open for the WOAW-UAW Bargaining Committee election at 8:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Nominations will remain open until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

The bargaining committee positions are allocated in the following way:

  • Two [2] members who are Faculty on Term Appointment

  • Two [2] members who are Instructors in Science Laboratory

  • One [1] member who is a Visiting Lecturer

  • One [1] member who is a Postdoctoral Fellow

  • One [1] member at-large

Any eligible Union supporter who wishes to accept the nomination for one of the seven [7] Bargaining Committee positions listed above must indicate their intention in writing by emailing woaw.uaw@gmail.com and indicating which position you are eligible for.

Candidate Statements

Each candidate may write and submit a candidate statement of no more than 500 words. These statements will be posted on the WOAW-UAW website. Statements may include hyperlinks. Name, title, phone number, and email address must be included, but will not be counted toward the 500 words.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to submit the candidate statement. All candidate statements must be received by the time nominations close, at 5pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Election Dates

In the event there are contested positions, elections will open at 8am on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 and close at 5pm on Friday, February 23, 2024. The election will be via electronic voting. Step-by-step instructions will be provided at the close of nominations.
